TrollingHelper

Privacy

Your spread stays yours.

TrollingHelper has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your location, rods and settings stay on your phone. The one thing that leaves it is listed below. Last updated October 27, 2026.

Location

While the app is open, it uses your phone's location to measure your speed and course over the ground, and to find the nearest NOAA tidal current station when you're on covered salt water. All of that is worked out on your phone. The app doesn't use location in the background, and it doesn't send your location anywhere.

You can turn location off and set your speed by hand instead; everything else keeps working.

Your rods and settings

The rods in your spread, their calibrations and your settings are saved only on your phone. We don't have a server that receives them, so we can't see them. Deleting the app removes them.

What leaves your phone

Tidal currents are calculated on your phone from NOAA harmonic constants that ship with the app, so the app doesn't call NOAA or any other service for them.

What we don't do

This website

trollinghelper.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The depth calculator on the home page runs entirely in your browser and doesn't send what you enter anywhere.

Children

TrollingHelper isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this changes, for example if we add a catch log that backs up to the cloud, we'll update this page and the date above before the change ships, and the app will ask before anything new leaves your phone.
